The Weatherford Cockers

April 9, 2008:

UPDATE WEATHERFORD:

As before, we ask that you do not forward this information in email, email blast it, or post it on boards or places such as Craig's List.  We continue to request that you do not contact the shelter directly with requests for information.

As of today, DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue has taken in 21 of the Weatherford dogs.   We continue to stay in touch with the shelter re: disposition of the remaining dogs, but we have little information at this time.  A couple of the dogs have been adopted directly from the shelter. The shelter liaison assures us that any dog adopted will be spayed or neutered before going to a new home.

The dogs that DFWCSR does have are either at the vet being checked out, being spayed or neutered, and/or awaiting a foster home placement or they are already in foster homes. Those foster parents who have one or more of these dogs have had nothing but good to say about them.  A couple of the females even seem to be house trained, several are learning to use doggie doors very quickly, all have been called sweet.  The ones who have been exposed to children and cats seem to do well with them.  You will soon begin to see them appear on the website.

We are still in need of foster homes and permanent homes, especially if we do receive more animals from the shelter. We also still need financial donations to help us absorb the unexpected increase in the number of dogs for whom we are providing vet care, spaying, neutering, heart worm treatment, etc.   This sudden influx of dogs has been in addition to our "normal" reception of abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted cocker spaniels.    We know we are doing the right thing in taking these dogs and providing for them.

We thank those who have been supporting us through this.  We want you to know how much you are appreciated.

____________________________________________________

As of this morning, (Wednesday, 4/2/08) all dogs who have been taken to the shelter are safe. Please keep in touch with DFW Cocker Spaniel Rescue for more details as they occur.

PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE SHELTER.

They have been inundated with calls and emails that slow them down from doing their job.  Not all the dogs have been rescued and this is a very sensitive and delicate situation.

If you choose to adopt straight from the shelter - please check Petfinder for available pets.

Helping:

If you are a 501(c)3 Rescue Organization that would like to help by taking some of these dogs in your program, please contact: Barb Pursley - W'ford Volunteer - featherwatcher@yahoo.com

The Shelter will require paperwork and a copy of your 501(c)3 letter and you will have to provide them with proof of rabies shots and spay/neuter.

Fostering: Yes, we need foster parents for the pups.  We always need foster parents.

If you would like to volunteer to foster, please fill out the adoption/foster application/information sheet and fax it to 888-726-6677.  click here for application download.

DO NOT FORWARD THE ORIGINAL EMAIL AND SUBSEQUENT UPDATES OR INFORMATION TO CRAIGS LIST, OR ANY OTHER LIST
